I've been testing different ways of using ChatGPT for learning lately, and one thing became pretty obvious: the quality of the lesson depends heavily on how you structure the interaction.
You can ask for an explanation and get a perfectly accurate wall of text.
Or you can make ChatGPT question you, adapt to what you already know, spot your weak points, and gradually make the material harder.
That's where Quick Learning Mode gets interesting.
Instead of treating it like another place to ask questions, you can use it as the starting point for a much more interactive way of learning.
So today, I'm sharing seven prompts designed to get more out of that experience, whether you're studying something new, preparing for an exam, or simply trying to finally understand a topic that's been confusing you.

1. Personalized Learning Diagnostic
Prompt:
"Act as my personal learning strategist for [TOPIC]. Don't start by teaching me. First, determine exactly what I know, what I misunderstand, and what I need to learn to reach my goal.
My current level: [BEGINNER / INTERMEDIATE / ADVANCED]
My goal: [GOAL]
What I already know: [WHAT I KNOW]
Time available: [TIME]
Start by asking me 5–7 targeted questions that test both factual knowledge and whether I can actually apply the concepts. Analyze my answers and create a personalized learning path based only on the gaps you identify. Teach each concept progressively, use examples connected to my interests, and periodically test me with questions before introducing new material. Adjust the difficulty based on my answers throughout the session."
Why it works:
It prevents ChatGPT from teaching you things you already know and makes the learning experience adapt to your actual weaknesses.
2. Active Recall Tutor
Prompt:
"Act as an active-recall tutor for [TOPIC]. Your goal is to help me retain the information long after this conversation ends.
My current level: [LEVEL]
Material I'm studying: [MATERIAL / NOTES / CHAPTER]
Exam or learning goal: [GOAL]
First, identify the most important concepts I need to remember. Then teach them briefly and quiz me without showing the answers. Use a mix of recall questions, application problems, comparisons, and 'explain this in your own words' questions. Track the areas I struggle with and revisit them later using different questions. At the end, create a short review session containing only the concepts I was weakest on."
Why it works:
It replaces passive rereading with retrieval practice, forcing your brain to actually recall and use what you've learned.
3. The Feynman Learning Loop
Prompt:
"Teach me [TOPIC] using an iterative Feynman-style learning process.
My current level: [LEVEL]
What I need to understand: [CONCEPT]
First, explain the concept simply enough that a beginner could understand it. Then ask me to explain it back to you in my own words without looking at your explanation. Analyze my response for missing logic, vague language, misconceptions, and areas where I'm relying on memorized phrases. Ask targeted questions to expose those gaps, then help me rebuild the explanation. Repeat this process until I can explain the concept clearly using a simple example and correctly apply it to a new situation."
Why it works:
If you can't explain something clearly in your own words, you probably don't understand it as deeply as you think. This prompt exposes that gap.
4. Adaptive Exam Simulator
Prompt:
"Act as an adaptive exam tutor for [SUBJECT / TOPIC]. Your job is to determine whether I'm genuinely prepared, not simply make me feel confident.
Exam type: [EXAM TYPE]
Difficulty: [DIFFICULTY]
Topics covered: [TOPICS]
Current level: [LEVEL]
Create one question at a time and wait for my answer. Start at a moderate difficulty, then adjust the difficulty based on my performance. Don't immediately reveal the answer when I'm wrong. First give me a hint or ask a smaller question that helps me identify the mistake myself. Track recurring errors and deliberately test those areas again later. At the end, give me a breakdown of my strengths, weaknesses, recurring mistakes, and the specific topics I should review before the real exam."
Why it works:
The difficulty changes based on your actual performance, making the session much closer to personalized tutoring than a static practice quiz.
5. Learn Through Real-World Problems
Prompt:
"Act as a practical instructor for [TOPIC]. I don't want to learn this through definitions alone. I want to understand how the knowledge works when I actually have to use it.
My current level: [LEVEL]
Goal: [GOAL]
Real-world context I'm interested in: [CONTEXT]
Start by identifying the 5–7 concepts that are most important for reaching my goal. Teach each concept briefly, then immediately give me a realistic problem that requires me to apply it. Don't solve the problem for me. Let me attempt it, evaluate my reasoning, identify exactly where I went wrong if necessary, and then give me a more difficult scenario that builds on the previous one. Finish by giving me a final challenge that combines several concepts without telling me which concepts I need to use."
Why it works:
It moves learning from “I recognize this concept” to “I know when and how to use it,” which is where real understanding starts.
6. Knowledge Gap Detector
Prompt:
"Act as a diagnostic learning coach for [TOPIC]. I want to find the missing pieces in my understanding before I spend more time studying.
My current level: [LEVEL]
What I've already studied: [TOPICS / MATERIAL]
My goal: [GOAL]
Start by giving me a short diagnostic assessment that tests the key concepts and how they connect to one another. After I answer, map my knowledge into three categories: concepts I understand, concepts I partially understand, and concepts I don't understand. Identify which gaps are most important because they prevent me from understanding other topics. Then create a prioritized study sequence that addresses those gaps in the most logical order. Re-test me on each weak area after teaching it."
Why it works:
It focuses your learning on the gaps that actually matter instead of making you work through an entire subject from the beginning.
7. Concept Connection Builder
Prompt:
"Act as an expert teacher who specializes in building mental models. Help me understand how the different ideas within [TOPIC] connect rather than learning each one in isolation.
My current level: [LEVEL]
Concepts I know: [CONCEPTS]
Concepts I'm struggling with: [CONCEPTS]
Learning goal: [GOAL]
Start by identifying the core concepts I need to understand. Then map how they relate to one another, including cause-and-effect relationships, dependencies, similarities, and important differences. Explain the connections using intuitive examples and analogies, then give me several scenarios where I have to predict what happens when one part of the system changes. Correct my reasoning and keep expanding the mental model until I can explain how the major pieces work together."
Why it works:
Understanding relationships between concepts makes knowledge much easier to retrieve and apply than memorizing isolated facts.
The more I experiment with AI for learning, the more I realize that better questions matter just as much as better answers.
